Roasted dark malts can impart a bitter coffee note to the flavor of the beer. Some brewmasters, to emphasize this taste, add a coffee undertone. These beers will take names such as “Guatemalan Coffee Stout,” “Espresso Stout,” “Breakfast Coffee Stout,” etc.The alcohol content of these coffee-flavored stouts ranges from 4 percent to over 8 percent vol. Most of these beers are dry and bitter, however in some milk and sugar are added to create a sweet stout that can take the name “Coffee & Cream Stout” or just “Coffee Cream Stout”
